Drywall Calculator

Estimate how many drywall sheets you need for a room, selected walls or ceilings, or a known total area.

Measurement system

Drywall surfaces

Surface 1
Surface width
Surface height

Up to 20 surfaces can be entered.

Large openings

For typical doors and windows, leaving openings included can help account for cuts and offcuts. Subtract only larger openings when you want them removed from the area estimate.

Opening 1
Opening width
Opening height

Up to 20 openings can be entered.

Panel and purchase settings

Panel width
Panel length

No extra material is added by default. Add an allowance when your layout involves many cuts, irregular surfaces or when you want spare material.

Use the exact panel size you plan to purchase. Drywall type and thickness must be chosen separately for your project.

How it works

How your surfaces become a sheet estimate.

We total the selected walls and ceilings, subtract only the large openings you choose, then apply the panel size and whole-sheet rounding.

Rectangular room

Walls = 2 × (length + width) × height

The ceiling adds length × width only when you include it. The floor is never counted.

Measured area

Measured area = gross area − large openings

Multiple-surface mode adds width × height × quantity for every complete row.

Order area

Order area = measured area × (1 + allowance %)

The allowance starts at 0% and changes only when you edit it.

Sheet count

Sheets = round up(order area ÷ panel area)

Only the purchase count is rounded up; the area calculations keep full precision.

Before you buy

What this estimate assumes

  • Entered walls, ceilings, and openings are rectangular and do not overlap.
  • Openings remain included by default because typical doors and windows can help account for cuts and offcuts.
  • No extra material is added by default. Choose an allowance that fits the cuts, irregular surfaces, and spares in your project.
  • The sheet count is based on area only and does not optimize layout, seams, orientation, or offcut reuse.
  • Choose the drywall type and thickness required for your project separately. This calculator estimates panel quantity, not code or assembly requirements.

Confirm your panel before ordering

The US presets cover common four-foot-wide panel lengths. Products, thicknesses, edge profiles, and availability vary, so use the actual panel dimensions and specifications for your project.

Manufacturer literature is useful for confirming available dimensions and product requirements. Measivo does not select a drywall type, thickness, or code-compliant assembly.
